New Futura Singapore Curtain Wall Steel Structure Fabrication Project
◈Project Name: New Futura Curtain Wall Steel Structure Project
◈Location: Singapore
◈Steel Consumption: 878 metric tons
◈Building Type: High-rise steel structure residential development
Project Overview
New Futura is a premium twin-tower residential development located in Orchard Road, one of Singapore’s most established commercial districts. The project consists of two 36-storey towers featuring a distinctive architectural language defined by curved geometries and flowing façade lines.
ZHM participated in this project as a subcontractor responsible for the curtain wall supporting steel structure fabrication and installation, covering the full scope from detailed design, shop drawing development, material procurement, fabrication, surface treatment, logistics, site erection, and final commissioning.
Engineering Scope and Technical Characteristics
The project required high precision execution due to the complex architectural façade. The curtain wall system integrates multiple curved and non-linear profiles, requiring advanced 3D modeling (BIM), parametric design, and CNC-based fabrication techniques.
Key technical features include:
◈Complex Geometry Steel Fabrication:
The façade support system incorporates curved steel members, twisted sections, and non-standard nodes, requiring strict dimensional tolerance control and digital fabrication workflows.
◈High-Strength Structural Steel Application:
Materials comply with international standards such as EN 10025 / ASTM A572 / SS400 equivalents, ensuring structural reliability for high-rise applications.
◈Curtain Wall Support System Integration:
The steel structure interfaces precisely with unitized curtain wall panels, glass façade systems, and aluminum cladding, ensuring alignment accuracy and load transfer performance.
◈Welding and Quality Control:
Fabrication followed ISO 3834 welding quality requirements and AWS D1.1 structural welding code, with full traceability and non-destructive testing (NDT) including UT, MT, and PT inspections.
◈Surface Treatment and Corrosion Protection:
Steel components were treated using hot-dip galvanizing (HDG), epoxy primer systems, and fluorocarbon coating (PVDF) to meet Singapore’s tropical climate durability requirements.
◈Precision Installation and Tolerance Management:
On-site erection utilized total station surveying, laser alignment, and pre-assembly techniques to ensure installation accuracy within tight tolerances required for curtain wall systems.
Fabrication and Logistics
All steel components were manufactured in ZHM’s production facilities using automated cutting, robotic welding, and CNC drilling equipment.
The project involved:
◈Detailed material take-off (MTO) and bill of materials (BOM) management
◈Modular fabrication for efficient containerized shipping
◈Strict packing and labeling system for site identification and sequencing
◈Coordination with project stakeholders for just-in-time (JIT) delivery
Installation and Commissioning
The installation phase required close coordination with façade contractors and general contractors. ZHM’s team executed:
◈Steel frame erection for curtain wall support
◈Alignment verification and structural adjustment
◈Interface coordination with glass curtain wall installation
◈Final inspection and system commissioning
All works were completed in accordance with international construction standards and project specifications, ensuring safety, structural performance, and architectural intent.
Architectural and Functional Integration
The New Futura project emphasizes a balance between aesthetic expression and structural engineering performance. The curtain wall steel structure plays a critical role in:
◈Supporting complex façade geometries
◈Ensuring wind load resistance for high-rise buildings
◈Maintaining façade integrity and durability
◈Enhancing the visual continuity of curved architectural forms
Through precise engineering, strict quality control, and coordinated execution, the project achieved its technical and architectural objectives, contributing to Singapore’s modern skyline.
